(5) CHARLOTTESVILLE STEPS UP TO FIGHT GLOBAL WARMING

Saturday, April 14, 2007 1:00 pm

Rotunda (street side)

Tired of feeling hopeless about global warming? Step Up on April 14 to join
the biggest day of action for the environment in 37 years!

Over 1,300 events across the U.S. will join Bill McKibben's StepItUp07
campaign in asking
Congress to cut carbon emissions 80% by 2050.

We'll start on the street side of the Rotunda at 1:00 p.m. We'll hear
fantastic speakers: City Council's Dave Norris, UVa Engineering's Dean
Paxton Marshall, scientists, environmental lawyers, clergy, and concerned
citizens. We'll get verbal and printed information on what to do *now* for
a better future for people all over the world. Then we'll make our presence
known by proceeding to a final gathering downtown.

Some signs available, but bring your own if you can. Come for the speakers,
come for the walk, but COME - big crowds are crucial to getting us in step
with a sane human future.

Rain location: Maury Hall auditorium (209). Maury is off the South Lawn to
the west - near the stone amphitheater and next to Minor Hall.

Co-sponsors with CCPJ: Piedmont Environmental Council, Student Environmental
Action, Blue Ridge Clean Fuels, and the Piedmont Group of the Sierra Club.
