Hundreds of volunteers from across the U.S. and several foreign countries

illegal for U.S. citizens to travel there.
The Caravan expects to collect almost 200 tons of humanitarian aid during a
two week caravan across the U.S. and parts of Canada, crossing the U.S.
border without Treasury Dept. licenses - in violation of the law.
Donations to help finance the trip are always welcome and can be presented
to Caravan
participants at this event or contact:

(6) PEAK OIL LOCAL FOOD POTLUCK
Saturday, July 07, 2007 5:00 pm
912 Woodfolk Drive
Come join us for an evening of good food, music, and thoughtful discussion.
Bring your favorite summer recipe! Or just bring yourself and we'll feed
you. Indoor/outdoor, weather permitting. Raspberry surprises provided.
In the midst of the merriment, there will be a brief discussion about Peak
Oil, the likely
limitations of energy supply in the coming years, and how that will affect
social movements in our area. How might relentlessly escalating energy
prices impact minority rights, the local economy, local transportation and
food production? How can we bring the movements together in this region to
think holistically about how to respond to the changing times? Did you know
that global oil production has been flat for 2 years? Any perturbation in
the supply system will have large impacts on prices.
Directions to 912 Woodfolk:
>From Downtown, take 5th Street toward I-64. Just past the light at
Cherry/Elliot, go left on
Ridge (aka Old Ridge). Go past Lankford and Hartman's Mill roads. Left on
Raymond, left on Baylor, right on Woodfolk. 3rd house on left.

(7) ACTION ALERT - VADEQ WATER CONTROL BOARD HEARING
Wednesday, July 18, 2007 7:00 pm
Louisa Middle School, 1009 Davis Hgwy (Rt. 22), Mineral, VA
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality is poised to re-issue the
permit to Dominion Power which allows it to dump very hot wastewater, used
for cooling its reactors, into Lake Anna without any upper limits.
Dominion treats this a portion of this recreational lake, currently home to
8000 folks, as its
own private Waste Heat Treatment Facility. These public surface waters have
never been
officially transferred to Dominion ownership by act of the Federal
Government. Therefore, this is very likely a violation of the Clean Water
Act. Higher temperatures increase evaporation and decrease downstream
flows.
A third nuclear reactor, which Dominion is planning to build, will further
wreak havoc on an
already impaired ecosystem. This hearing is also an opportunity to oppose
new nukes (which are neither "clean" or "green") at Lake Anna
PLEASE NOTE: If you can't be at the hearing, please call in or write up
your comments before the hearing. For information about where to send
comments contact:
Susan Mackert 703 583-3853 smackert at deq.virginia.gov
