(1)  CCPJ's ANNUAL HIROSHIMA/NAGASAKI DAY COMMEMORATION

Saturday, August 04, 2007       3 - 5:00 pm

Downtown Mall Central Place

Each year in early August, we join millions around the world who say "Never
Again" to the use of nuclear bombs.
On August 6 and 9 the U.S. dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki,
Japan killing hundreds  of thousands instantly, destroying the cities and
leaving countless thousands suffering over long periods of time, some still
today.
The Charlottesville Center for Peace and Justice will be near the central
fountain with our
literature, petitions, buttons and bumper stickers, and our paper peace
crane table where you can learn to make your own paper cranes.

The paper crane, historically a symbol of good fortune in Japan, has come to
represent peace and a fervent wish for peace.  Japanese school children
bring thousands upon thousands of folded paper cranes to the Hiroshima and
Nagasaki Peace Parks every day.  They have been doing this for nearly 60
years.
