(4) PUBLIC WITNESS STATEMENT TO END THE WAR

UU Church Chville This will be posted until June 18.

On May 20, 2007, the congregation of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Church -
Unitarian
Universalist, in Charlottesville, passed a public witness statement that
calls for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, together with
international diplomacy that includes Iraq's neighbors.
The resolution calls for the following four actions:
1. The United States government to establish a definite timetable and
deadline for the complete withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Iraq;
2. Innovative and persistent international diplomacy, to include factions
within Iraq and Iraq's  neighbors in the Middle East;
3. Congressional oversight, with thorough and public investigation of the
United States' conduct prior to and during the war; and
4. Thorough and sustained support for U.S. service men and women, veterans
and their families; and sustained humanitarian assistance for the people of
Iraq.

This resolution is the culmination of several months of discussion among
church members on the war in Iraq. It follows a similar call for troop
withdrawal by the Unitarian Universalist
Association at its national General Assembly meeting in the summer of 2006.

We hope that other Americans of faith will add their voices to calling for
an end to our
country's military occupation of Iraq.
