This year the Peace Summit is meeting at Shannon Farm in Nelson County.
Please join CCPJ, The Virginia Anti-War Network and other peace/justice
organizations as we enjoy lunch together, create our agenda for the day, and
talk about significant events and activities of the past year and plan for
the year to come.
12:00 noon - lunch (Please bring something to share).
Followed by discussions, reports, plans.
At 6:00 pm those attending the Peace Summit are welcome to join The People
United for dinner and are also welcome to stay for the Virginia Social
Forum/People United weekend which starts at 6:00 pm on Friday and ends
after lunch on Sunday, June 24. There is a sliding scale registration fee

About What They Do and Why - a timely new book by writer/editor Kristin
Layng Szakos and VOP Executive Director Joe Szakos. The book helps to
demystify this little-known profession and offer a glimpse into the daily
lives of the people who make changing the world their life's work.
The free event features musician John McCutcheon, readings by the authors,
and book signings.

(6) HELPING YOUR LATINO CLIENTS AND FRIENDS

Creciendo Juntos (CJ) is a network of government, non-profit, and faith
based service providers and individuals working with our local Latino
population. This month's plenary - as always, open to the public and
admission free - will include an update on immigration reform and address
documents Latinos need to access both services in the community and
immigration reform; what to do when an undocumented Latino is approached by
Immigration, deported, or has a family member deported; and where Latinos,
who require assistance with Immigration Reform or have deportation problems,
should be referred. Lawyers Eddy Summers, Charlottesville Immigration
Center, Doug Ford and Tim Freilich, Legal Aid Justice Center, will speak on
these issues and be available for questions.

(8) 'PEACE" LICENSE PLATE

The Virginia General Assembly has approved production of a new and beautiful
specialty license plate that will promote community peacebuilding and
contribute to the financial support of non-profit conflict resolution
centers across Virginia. The Community Peacebuilding plate displays a
tranquil image of a dove, with the word "Peace".
The cost of the plate is $25 per year. 350 vehicle owners need to
"pre-purchase" the plates by July 1 2007 or the plates will not be produced.
As of May 9, only 190 people had done so. Your help is needed!
Application forms can be obtained by calling Roanoke's Conflict Resolution
Center at (540) 342-2063 X300 and requesting an application and instructions
for submission or by visiting the Virginia Association for Community
