The Unitary Executive is scheduled to disgrace the grounds of Thomas
Jefferson's house, Monticello, in Charlottesville, Va. During a July 4
naturalization ceremony, immigrants will swear to "support and defend
the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all
enemies, foreign and domestic" at an event besmirched by the presence of
the Constitution's leading domestic enemy. Jefferson's Declaration of
Independence from King George faulted him for harassment by his troops,
elevating the military above civilian power, denying people a fair trial
by jury by transporting them overseas to be tried on false accusations,
and other abuses that have been matched by our current King George. He
has claimed the power to ignore laws, to rewrite laws, to adhere to
secret laws, to discard habeas corpus, to spy without warrant, to detain
without charge, to torture, to murder, and to lie the nation into wars
of conquest. All citizens, old and new, have a duty to support and
defend the Constitution, a document that requires the impeachment of a
president as criminal and abusive as the current one.

Defenders for Peace, Justice and Equality Forum on Iran
WHEN: Thursday, July 3, 7:00 p.m.
WHAT: Iran: Stopping the Next War Before It Starts
July 3, 2008 is the 20th anniversary of the day the USS Vincennes shot
down an Iranian civilian airbus in the Persian Gulf, killing nearly 300
men, women and children. We will rededicate ourselves to working to
prevent any U.S. military attack or sanctions against Iran.
Presentation: A group-reading of a letter written to Capt. Will Rogers
of the USS Vincennes by Capt. Habib Ahmadzadeh of the Iranian Navy on
the 10th anniversary of the Iran airbus disaster. Members of the
People's Peace Delegation to Iran met Capt. Ahmadzadeh during our
journey to Iran. He asked us to share his letter with the people of the
United States, in the hope that it would lead to a world in peace, not war.
Video: 'BAM 6.6' --- In 2003, a devastating earthquake with a magnitude
of 6.6 leveled the southern Iranian city of Bam, killing more than
30,000 people. "Bam 6.6" explores the aftermath of this disaster through
the story of two California tourists, one of whom is Jewish. The film
strips away cultural and religious differences to provide a glimpse of
the deep humanity of the Iranian people. Introduced by Rostam Pourzal,
U.S. President, CASMII. 7 p.m., Asbury United Methodist Church, 324 N.
29th St.
Presented by the Defenders for Freedom, Justice & Equality

Southeast Convergence for Climate Action
WHEN: August 5---August 11,
WHERE: Central VA -- Sophia House in Louisa County Virginia* *
This summer, join people of *all ages and backgrounds* for the second
annual Southeast Convergence for Climate Action. We are excited to
continue the struggle for climate justice in the southeast with an
engaging week of workshops, strategizing, and direct action! This year's
convergence will be hosted in Virginia where communities are fighting
uranium mining, nuclear power, mountaintop removal coal mining, and new
(as well as old) coal plants. We will unite to fight the coal
industry's stranglehold on our region while rejecting the deadly nuke
industry's attempt to position itself as the solution to the climate crisis.
The convergence is a place to strengthen our movement, network with new
allies, and take action against dirty energy while working to build a
sustainable world.
Workshops will include: community organizing, direct action 101,
debunking false solutions to climate change, blockades, sustainable
living systems, media, disaster response, fighting nukes and coal, and
much more. The convergence will culminate in an empowering action to
show that the southeast is serious about tackling climate change.
