Public Hearing on Mountaintop Removal Mining in Virginia
WHEN: Thursday, February 11 Rally at 3:00 pm and Senate Hearing at
4:00 pm
WHERE: Richmond. We are trying to coordinate transportation from
Charlottesville.
For the first time ever, we have a bill before the Virginia General
Assembly to
address mountaintop removal! The Stream Saver bill, SB 564, would end
the
burial of our headwater streams with strip mining spoil and curtail the
destruction of our mountains.
For the first time ever a Virginia Senate committee will hold a
special public hearing devoted solely to this issue. Don’t miss
this unique
opportunity to show both the General Assembly and the state as a
whole your
support for protecting our mountains and streams from mountaintop
removal!

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes - for SARA!
WHEN: Thursday, April 1 12:48 pm
WHERE: Downtown Mall, Charlottesville VA
If you are a guy, or if you know a guy, then you have a chance to make
a difference in April, when a big group of men from our area will
march on the Downtown Mall in shoes typically worn by women – high
heels, ballet flats, you name it!
It’s an attention-grabbing effort to draw our community’s notice to
the current epidemic of sexual assault – 1 in 4 women and 1 in 8 men
are sexually assaulted in their lifetimes. This is not okay, and all
genders have a huge role to play in decreasing these numbers – as
vital community leaders, allies, friends, survivors, and change-makers!
So take the first step, and get a team together to walk against sexual
assault.
For more information, and to register, please visit our website at http://saracville.org/walk10.htm
Sponsored by the Sexual Assault Resource Agency (SARA)
