Let's make some Noise, please... Time to activate .. participate.. Attend
the rally tomorrow. Make a note.. put it on your desk now... Be there or be
square.

Really need a big presence tomorrow (Friday)- UVA is still not taking this
seriously, the Board of Visitors has one more day in town- lets be heard!

Living Wage at UVA submitted demands to the administration on Feb. 8th
along with a faculty petition with over 325 signatures, requesting a
response by Feb. 17th.  President Sullivan did not respond to the demands,
but instead made a speech citing "wage progress" at U.Va.  Meanwhile,
hundreds of U.Va. employees are struggling to get by. Yet President
Sullivan ignored the specific demands of the Campaign, including concerns
for contract employees. Consider the following:  one of the companies that
U.Va. contracts with pays only $7.50/hr, no benefits, and makes employees
pay for their own uniforms!  The managers only make $9.50/hr... not enough
to survive!

And the President thinks that we've made progress?!?! This "progress" is
not enough for employees struggling to make ends meet, for the contracted
employees that U.Va. refuses to acknowledge, and the families hurt by long
hours, low pay, and financial instability. This is not the time for flowery
speeches. It is time for action!!


The Campaign was recently supported by a community letter that included the
NAACP - Charlottesville/Albermarle, Virginia Organizing, Legal Aid Justice
Center, Charlottesville Center for Peace and Justice (CCPJ), CVille Workers
Action Network, and Kristin Szakos - Vice Mayor City of Charlottesville,
with many others.

Now it's time to take action, because the caring community starts with us!!
