Our first workshop was a definite success! We had a great turn-out of
teachers, awesome energy, and the creation of some amazing lesson plans.
But if you missed this one, don't worry, there's still two workshops coming
soon and plenty of opportunity to get involved!
Please join us Wednesday, May 26th or June 5th for this curriculum building
workshop!

THE CLASS DISMISSED CURRICULUM GUIDE WORKSHOP

For all the teachers tired of teaching the same bland and misinformed
curriculum.

For every student bored by a deluge of endless names and dates.

For all those who recognize how much our history truly impacts where and who
we are today.

This is your chance to rewrite the old lessons. Join Paper Tiger Television
in building a dynamic and innovative curriculum guide to accompany our
newest release, Class Dismissed, (see video description below) a dynamic
film featuring Howard Zinn. The intent of this video project is not only to
critique the modern education system for its shortcomings, but to urge
teachers and youth to take a fresh look at what they are teaching and
learning and why. Most importantly, Paper Tiger wants Class Dismissed to
serve as a tool to inspire youth to develop a sense of their own agency in
creating social change, and to find their own place within the history of
the United States and the world.

We are holding workshops over the next few months - if you missed the first
one, don't wait to sign up for the next. We are working to create the
curriculum in time for the 2004-2005 school term. Come to one or more....

Available Dates:
May 26 - Paper Tiger Offices - 5:30-7:30
339 Lafayette Street, Buzzer 6 (corner of Bleeker, close to F/V and 6
trains)

June 5 - Paper Tiger Offices - 3-5 (time and place subject to change)

TO PARTICIPATE YOU MUST RSVP. Please call the Paper Tiger Offices at
212.420-9045 or email denisse at papertiger.org

We invite teachers, parents, students, history buffs and activists from all
disciplines to participate. Bring your unique voices, special interests and
skills to the table. Everyone is invited to attend more than one workshop to
develop and strengthen their ideas and lesson plans.

This is a great opportunity to work with a progressive organization, meet
good folk, get some resume-building experience, learn or teach how to build
a creative curriculum, have a lesson plan you create potentially reach
thousands of students..... please forward to friends and teachers you know
who might be interested in this great project (you don't have to be a
teacher to participate - but we need teachers to make the plan strong).

Help contribute to an important project to help inspire young people to take
a fresh and active part in their world, and the history being created
everyday!

ONCE AGAIN, PLEASE RSVP. Please call the Paper Tiger Offices at
212.420-9045 or email denisse at papertiger.org

CLASS DISMISSED
28 min.
A Paper Tiger Television Production

Class Dismissed provides a critical look at the textbook industry and
standardized testing, at the lack of race and class analysis in traditional
history teaching, and the teacher’s role in introducing a range of
perspectives into the classroom. Featuring authors Howard Zinn (A People’s
History of the United States) and James Loewen (Lies My Teacher Told Me),
New York public high school students, textbook industry insiders, and
teachers, this is a must-see video for any student of American History.
