Hi. With the Android SDK installed in ~/bin/android-sdk-linux_86 and
PATH=~/bin/android-sdk-linux_86/tools:...

sudo apt-get install git ant
git clone git://gitorious.org/f-droid/fdroidclient.git
cd fdroidclient
echo sdk.dir=/home/(you)/bin/android-sdk-linux_86 >local.properties
android update project -p . -n FDroid -t 8
ant debug && adb install bin/FDroid-debug.apk  # apk=144.8KB

As a user, you need to trust the repository with binaries anyway. Which
is probably why they don't "advertise" the app's source code. But the
build process is trouble free as it can be. (And building it let's you
replace that icon.png!)
