You should definitely take a look at TorService and the rest of the
org.torproject.android.service.* package code.

While I agree with Hans with our overall hopes for building
infrastructure of services we can all share, I think it will also be
interesting to have Briar take it own path with Tor integration for a
bit. Could teach us a thing or two, and as you said, might ultimately
prove to be a better model.... might! :)
