Have you tried smaller files? Also, are you leaving the chat windows 
open, or switching out of the app? I would try leaving it alone and see 
what happens.

Not in theory, but we are still understanding in practice what it means 
to move this much binary data through the OTR encrypted channels. This 
is especially true for federated communications between two different 
XMPP services.
