MEMBER NEWS

A Cochabamba-US Encuentro was organized during one of the most important
events in human collaboration on the solutions for climate change. It
was a genuine interaction between participants in the Climate and Rights
of Mother Earth Conference in Cochabamba and people in four cities of
the US. We were able to see and talk to each other, ask and answer
questions, offer opinions, etc. (More information

Today a group of local volunteers announced the launch
of a new web-based calendar-- http://nycal.mayfirst.org/ --for New
York’s progressive community. The volunteers say the calendar will be
a central, open space where local activist groups can post their
events and individuals can go to find out what’s going on.

EVENTS & NOTICES

If you haven't registered for the US Social Forum
(http://www.ussf2010.org/register) now's the time - be sure to get in
before the early bird registration rates go up!

May First People Link is traveling this week to Mexico City to
participate in a thematic Social Forum "Desde los pueblos, otras salidas
a la crisis global son possibles." (http://fsmmex.org) Here, the second
World Techie Congress will be held, to prepare a declaration of
principles that establishes the relationship between progressive
technologists and the progressive movement. World Social Forum
International Council meetings are being held during which time MF/PL
will be considered for membership and representation on the IC.

The World Education Forum (WEF) to be held October 28 - 31, 2010 in
Palestine, as part of the World Social Forum program, will shed light on
pressing social and educational issues and challenges of people
struggling for peace and social justice around the world and more
specifically in Palestine. The venues of the forum will be polycentric,
with activities organized in Haifa, Ramallah/Jerusalem, Gaza, as well as
in Lebanon. May First/People Link is a member of the International
Advisory Committee of the WEF in coalition with many other international
organizations. For more information, please visit

US SOCIAL FORUM, DETROIT, JUNE 22-26

The United States Social Forum is happening in less than two months and
role of the Internet has never been more important!

The Information, Communications, and Technology (ICT) Working Group of
the USSF is responsible for building an Internet based on this vision
and using the collaborative approach it reflects. The Social Forum's
organizers are consciously relying on Internet technology for much of
its organizing, administrative and communications functions. That's
already happening; it will increase in importance and intensity at the
Social Forum itself.

FYI: IF YOU'RE A MF/PL MEMBER, DO YOU KNOW...

...you can now have video conferencing!

BigBlueButton.org is a Free and Open Source Software written on the Red5
java platform. It is intended for webinars and educational applications
but we're also envisioning it for use with large groups of people to
share a meaningful, collaborative moment for discussion. This entry can
build upon the documentation that already exists, providing
specifications for a video conference between large groups of people
rather than just individuals. You can find a more detailed set of
instructions at http://wiki.cmpcc.org.bo/index.php/BigBlueButton

Fred Hampton (August 30, 1948 – December 4, 1969) was an
African-American activist and deputy chairman of the Illinois chapter of
the Black Panther Party (BPP). He was killed as he lay in bed in his
apartment by a tactical unit of the Cook County, Illinois State's
Attorney's Office (SAO), in conjunction with the Chicago Police
Department (CPD) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He is
quoted as saying, "You can kill the revolutionary, but you can't kill
the revolution."
