We cannot count on using the Internet in the coming years they way we
have used it up to now. Hardly a week goes by without a report of a
gross violation of privacy, a security breach, an act of government
censorship, or another merger or buyout cementing the privatization and
centralization of Internet resources. Someday soon it will be your
YouTube video or Facebook page that will be cancelled or removed.

The need to encourage technological exchange and strengthen internal
capacity building among the MayFirst member organizations in Mexico can
be framed in different ways. A few that come to mind:
1) Listing the resources available for each MFPL member, which are
managed -- either currently or shortly -- through the control panel. For
example, was is nedeed to move your website from a commercial provider
to the membership server?
2) Interest in starting or extending your Internet presence and moving
significant content in appealing audio or video formats (either live or
pre-recorded).

  People of Color Techie Training Program Moves Ahead

Work is underway for the launch of MF/PL's People of Color Techie
Training project. Coodinators and mentor/trainers have already met once,
the curriculum is being prepared and a launch date, in June, has been
selected. The first face to face meeting for participants will take
place on June 27, 2011 right before the Allied Media Conference which
runs through June 28 - July 1, 2012 in Detroit, Michigan.

The year-long program is a skills sharing program in which professional
techies work with activists of color to develop server administrator skills.

  First Elected Leadership Committee Approves Projects for 2012

deliberations, the Leadership Committee has passed 9 project proposals
for 2012 based on the issue areas identified by our membership.

Last September, at our first annual membership meeting, we elected our

/Note: Four May First/People Link organizers were sent to Dakar, Senegal
by the US Social Forum in January/February of 2011 to attend the World
Social Forum and help organize the Indymedia Africa House, bringing
together over 50 African IMC activists from around the continent. We had
the honor to meet Stephen Nyash in Dakar during this period. He will
live on through our memories and the projects that he built./

No podemos confiar en que el uso de Internet en los próximos años se
seguirá llevando a cabo de la forma en que lo hemos utilizado hasta
ahora. No pasa una semana sin que se conozca de algún informe de una
grave violación de la privacidad, un fallo de seguridad, un acto de
censura del gobierno, o de otra fusión o adquisición entre corporaciones
que vaya cementado la privatización y la centralización de los recursos
de Internet. Algún día podría ser tu vídeo de YouTube o tu página de
Facebook los que serán cancelados o eliminados.

La necesidad de dar dinamismo al intercambio technológico y al
desarrollo de capacidades al interior de las organizaciones que forman
parte de la comunidad de Primero de Mayo en México se expresa de muy
diferentes maneras, a mi mente vienen algunas que quisiera mencionar:
(1) el objetivo de dar a conocer los recursos disponibles que son
propios de cada asociad@ y que son manejados a través del panel de
control del que ya disponen o del que dispondrán en breve. Por ejemplo,
para trasladar su sitio web de un proveedor comercial a los servidores
de la asociación.

  El Programa de Entrenamiento para Afroamerican at s Avanza

Estamos trabajando para el lanzamiento del proyecto de Primero de
Mayo/Enlace del Pueblo denominado Entrenamiento técnico para
afroamericanos. Los coodinadores y tutores/entrenadores ya se han
reunido una vez, el plan de estudios está siendo preparado y la fecha de
lanzamiento, en junio, ha sido seleccionada. El primer encuentro entre
los participantes tendrá lugar el 27 de junio 2012 justo antes de la
Conferencia de Medios Aliados, que se llevará a cabo del 28 junio al 1o.
julio de 2012 en Detroit, Michigan.

aprobado nueve propuestas de proyectos para el año 2012 sobre la base de
las áreas temáticas identificadas por nuestros miembros.

/Durante enero y febrero de 2011 cuatro compañer at s organizadores de
Primero de Mayo / Enlace del Pueblo fueron enviados por el Foro Social
de EU a Dakar, Senegal, para asistir en la puesta en marcha de la Casa
de África de Indymedia para el Foro Social Mundial, que reunió a más de
50 activistas africanos de diferentes Centros de Medios Independientes
(IMC) de todo el continente. En aquél momento tuvimos el honor de
conocer a Stephen Nyash en Dakar./
