As negotiated inside Mexican Congress, the law will not regulate monopolies effectively, will not promote diversity and quality content in mass media and ignore the right of communities to using radio frequencies and individual's right to a free, open and neutral Internet. This week and following Mexican Congress will negotiate and vote on the terms of the Telecom Act, and your participation is needed, not only to prevent denial of social rights to communications, but also to make progress in this field in Mexico. 1) Activists for a "free, open and neutral Internet" ("Internet libre, abierta y neutral") have launched a campaign in defense of Net Neutrality, a principle that has made the Internet the important media it is with broad margins for freedom of speech and social collaboration in recent years. This campaign can be found at Defender Internet . Send your expressions of support to Jacobo N?jera from ContingenteMX (jacobo at metahumano.org). NOTE: the following letter is only available in Spanish. If you are unable to read spanish, please rest assured that our organization is fighting this legislation on your behalf! If you are able to read spanish, we strongly encourage you to sign on. 2) On the other hand, various social organizations in the progressive wing of the Front for Democratic Communications , are promoting endorsement of the "Telecom law we want" ("La Ley Telecom que queremos "). Letter only available in Spanish.
