***Occupy Boston - Saturday, December 3rd, 2011*
*Today's Weather:* Sunny, highs in the mid 40's.
*Event Highlight: * The Day of Action/ Unity Rally is TODAY! (Twitter
#99Unity). Occupy Boston is working closely with community groups and
activists to create an event that both celebrates diversity and unity in
the struggle for the 99%. Different actions will be leaving Dewey Square
between 9-10am; with many others occurring throughout the city. Email
street at occupyboston.org for more info; or just show up!
*Select Events from the Day of Action:*
- *Ocupemos el Barrio.* 10-11 a.m. Maverick Street and Rosandalle,
canvassing on s-comm and deportation, 11:30 a.m. ICE JFK Federal Building,
Ocupamos La Migra! Occupy Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE)!
- *Climate Action Speakout. ** *11-12:30, Boston Common. Soapbox-style
speak-out (possibly using People's Mic) detailing the ways in which fossil
fuel companies, who are the top 1% of the top 1%, have built their
businesses by destroying local communities and infrastructure.
- *Health Care for Everyone! * 10-12 a.m., Coolidge Corner Trader Joe's
- *Public meeting at Bunker Hill and Roxbury Community College*,
Building 3, Room 424 at Roxbury Community College. A recent report
issued by the Boston Foundation proposes that community colleges limit
their mission to workforce development. Should Roxbury and Bunker Hill
Community Colleges be schools that train people for low-paid jobs? What
about an education that questions and challenges the current system? Do you
wonder what’s wrong with a society where the top 1% of households own 42%
of the wealth and where corporations with billions in profits pay no taxes
while workers pay their fair share?
