Dear friends,

We need your help.
<http://www.betterfutureproject.org/r?u=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fa%2Fbetterfutureproject.org%2Fforms%2Fd%2F155naShnCxRAfAW0SCQt9IMxGN9RRXvQCRkYrJc0uFM0%2Fviewform&utm_campaign=cape_wind&n=2&e=e041d6575059cafff9307b0a7682bece08790fb4&utm_source=betterfutureproject&utm_medium=email>
After
fourteen years of work, the future of the nation’s first offshore wind farm
is in jeopardy.

[image: cape-wind-power-farm-b1.jpg]As you have probably heard, last week,
National Grid and NSTAR announced that they were planning to back out of
their commitments to buy energy from Cape Wind.

The ultimate cause of National Grid and NSTAR’s decision? Relentless
lawsuits, financed by oil billionaire Bill Koch, have prevented Cape Wind
from obtaining the financing it needs.

As the judge who dismissed the 26th lawsuit against Cape Wind said:

“There comes a point at which the right to litigate can become a vexatious
abuse of the democratic process.”

Bill Koch thinks he can use his dirty energy money to keep the nation’s
first offshore wind farm, the key to our region’s renewable energy
independence, from being built.

I say he’s wrong. I say we can rally enough public support to pressure the
utilities to honor their contracts and get this thing built. But I know if
that’s going to happen, a whole bunch of us are going to need to get
together and do something big, do something bold, and do it soon.

That’s why we are calling for an emergency meeting of Cape Wind supporters

for this Saturday, January 17
<http://www.betterfutureproject.org/r?u=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fa%2Fbetterfutureproject.org%2Fforms%2Fd%2F155naShnCxRAfAW0SCQt9IMxGN9RRXvQCRkYrJc0uFM0%2Fviewform&utm_campaign=cape_wind&n=4&e=e041d6575059cafff9307b0a7682bece08790fb4&utm_source=betterfutureproject&utm_medium=email>,
at a time and place to be set soon in the greater Boston area.

I’ve heard a lot of folks complain that the climate movement is always
fighting against, against, against bad things and never fighting for good
things.

Well, this is a pretty darn good thing, and we need to fight for it.

and
we’ll update you on details as we have them.

Thank you in advance for your crucial leadership in this time of crisis.

Let’s show Bill Koch what we’re made of.
