We are reaching out to spread the word about *Keep the Doors Open

our new Business Resilience Program aimed at saving local businesses and
jobs in New York City and Massachusetts impacted by the Covid-19
outbreak. This program is made possible through the support of the New
York City Council administered by the NYC Department of Small Business
Services as well as the Massachusetts Center for Employee Ownership.

*Due to COVID-19, local businesses are facing an unprecedented risk of
closure. At stake are the good jobs, local business ownership, community
wealth, and retirement savings for owners tied up in their business.*
Over 50% of businesses are owned by baby boomers, who will face a
daunting decision of whether to take on more debt or cut their losses
and shut down. Worsening this closure crisis is the disproportionate
impact it will have on business owners and workers of color, women, and
immigrant communities already suffering from less access to capital and
disinvestment or displacement pressures.

Keep the Doors Open uses employee-buyouts (resulting in ESOPS, worker
cooperatives, other employee trusts, and hybrids) to preserve small
businesses and jobs in local communities. *With financing for a partial
or full buyout, employees become the new generation of owners, while the
business owner secures a fair price for the business to support a secure
and dignified retirement or other transition.*  ICA specializes in
working with businesses where employees have limited resources and helps
identify the right mix of financing to allow these transitions to
happen, without burdening employees beyond their means.   

*We need your help in catching businesses before they close.  *Please
help us spread the word about this program!  Services include working
with business owners to help assess the financial value of their
business and the feasibility for employee ownership; advice on gathering
financing; technical assistance to facilitate the sale of the business;
and ongoing workforce training and business development support.
