I am going to be trying to do basically nothing but working on video for
the next two weeks, in order to make up the last two months that I
haven't given it enough attention. I've already made some good progress
on debugging ffmpeg slowness issues even from this morning!
My plan is to update the issue tracker on github to make sure we have
all the relevant features and bugs there I should be tracking my efforts
against. Obviously, there are still high level usability issues, which
generally I hope to address with Shawn, Derek and Harlo's help, and then
rely on Hans and Andrew for tuning the ffmpeg and redact filter performance.
We have automated builds running, so you I just ask that as each of you
has time in your day, after you see there is some new code committed to
the SSCVideoProto repo (via email notif), pull down the latest build and
give it a shot:
https://guardianproject.info/builds/SSCVideoProto/
Best testing approach would be to use the same clip each time, to see
how both your ability to interact with it, create regions, etc
improves/worsens, and the efficiency of the ffmpeg improves/worsens.
The latest build up now supports a bunch of new improvements:
1) you can now cancel a processing video, and the ffmpeg video process
will be cleaned up as well
2) progress dialog displays text output from ffmpeg on fps/quality/time
etc... (working on proper % complete type dialog)
3) ffmpeg thread/process priority increased to MAX (it was running in
very low priority earlier, causing ridiculously long processing times).
Let me know if any other big decisions or updates came out of the scrum
today. Again sorry to miss it, but was just in a minor child tantrum
mode from 5am to 3pm today, when she finally collapsed for an epic nap.
