Nathan,

Fantastic stuff. Thanks for the update and thanks for making the
connections to ITP and NYU. Midori maybe we could link to the some
press about the Guardian project in News and Events?

Thanks,
Dan

One of the things I do besides be an adjunct at ITP is lead the Guardian
Project, an open-source mobile security for activist project.
We've been getting some good coverage of our work on "secure smart
cameras" and our specific app called ObscuraCam, including this great
piece in the Economist (see attachment and links below):

Much of this work comes from ITP in various ways, that I thought you
    might appreciate:

    1) The team working on this from the Guardian Project and WITNESS
involves many ITP folks: Shawn Van Every, Bryan Nunez, Hans-Christoph
Steiner, Harlo Holmes (MCC / ITP2800 student in 2010), and myself (not a
grad, just an adjunct!). Most amazingly people are actually getting paid
by grants to work on this, so hopefully it can be shown as viable career
path for "what to do when you graduate ITP".

    https://guardianproject.info/apps/securecam/
    http://witness.org/cameras-everywhere/witness-labs

    2) The "ObscuraCam" concept began at the OVC 2010 hackday hosted at ITP:
    http://blog.witness.org/2010/10/ovc2010-opensubtitles/

so +1 for hosting events, hackdays, gatherings, etc.

    3) Harlo Holmes MA, Media, Cultre and Communication), was my student in
ITP2800 last year, and much of the idea behind the work came from her
class project and NYU masters thesis. Having the cross-pollination
between NYU departments makes quite a bit of sense, and has benefited my
ITP2800 class greatly. This project has also been presented at Helen
    Nissembaum's Privacy Research Lab group.

I think that is all the connections (for now), but I am sure down the
road we'll find a way to link in with Processing or have Clay write
    about us. :)

    Best,
     Nathan
