Hi all --
I'm not exactly sure where to post comments and engage in conversation
about Story Maker. I did post something in the Forum a bit ago, but it
seems like that might go unnoticed if users don't manually toggle
'Watch'. If there's a better place to do this than this dev list or in
the forums, could someone direct me there?
The new Wiki adds do answer a lot of what I'd asked in the Forum post.
I would like to comment, though, on the Technical Design Notes wiki:
Under Overview, audio is discussed. Is it worth talking to Supercurio?
Under the test apk post, it says you used it on a Nexus (S?) and Galaxy
Tab, and I've got it working on my Galaxy S i9000. All these have an
incredible Wolfson Micro digital-audio converter in it. Francois
Simond/supercurio has done a lot of great work on these devices to
unlock the full capabilities of the DAC, including high-quality audio
recording (ADC 128x oversampling), with good preset recording
sensitivities. As for the actual test device in the Wiki, the Galaxy
Player 5, that has a Yamaha MC1N2, and Supercurio has made fixes for
that, although I'm less aware of their capabilities.
For Security by Design:
For recording, could there be a toggle to copy a backup to the internal
SD card? In most cases involving an overzealous security official, the
external memory card is taken. A secret backup to internal or system
data, if space is available, would be great.
For Production:
This is great -- I did not know that the project wouldn't be a
traditional timeline editor. If the editing of template segments makes
calls for such things as media shots, can this actually be
incorporated/cross-referenced in the field reporting? One of the things
I was taught to constantly think in the field is, "What do I have? What
do I need?" It's almost an internal chant. This could be transposed into
MRapp as a checklist—Setting 1, wide shot, medium shot, close-up;
interview 1, establishing shot, cutaway 1, cutaway 2. Automatic naming
as well as the ability to rename after shooting but before editing would
be great—for instance, to label a clip as 'nat pop' for a good natural
ambient sound to use as an editing point.
Cheers, all. It's looking promising.
Best,
Rick
