[guardian-dev] Reverse Tethering for internet cafes?

A friend just returned from Cuba and was surprised to learn that someone
had been accessing his Facebook and gmail account from Havana even after
he'd left. Big shocker, I know. I'm assuming it was due to a key logger.
Which got me thinking whether there are tried and true methods of reverse
tethering.

What I mean by reverse tethering is using the computer's hard wired
connection to give internet on your phone. That way, you're using your own
hardware and not at risk of keyloggers capturing data.

I'd also be interested in using the phone as a virtual keyboard, but I
imagine that'd be harder without an ability to change any settings on the
desktop machine. Are there other clever workarounds that can be had to keep
private info safe by using a phone when traveling through a nefarious
public internet terminal?
